Abercorn practises Sustainability. We do not just pay lip-service to the concept as others do.
We follow the principle of sustainability that involves minimising waste, providing materials and designs that provide maximum life and maximises future reuse of the materials involved.

A good example of this is the use of timber for external cladding and structures. Unless it is protected from the weather timber will only last 5 to 20 years, depending on species. This is not a satisfactory solution since a building should be designed for 80 years. The fact that timber itself can be considered 'sustainaable' does not change the fact that it needs constant replacement and it's failure may lead to failure of the underlying support makes it unsustainable.

On the other hand timber used in a protected environment, usually inside, can last for centuries.
At Abercorn Corporation we do not just give lip service to sustainablility, we perform, and provide the best solutions to minimise all pollution, not just talking about CO2.

Both Concrete and Steel require large output of CO2 for their manufacture, alternative production methods creating less CO2 do not exist in practice. We have always used minimum materials in our designs, thus have a minimal CO2 footprint. We are researching practical and permanent ways of capturing and storing CO2.

We do not make meaningless comments that you will find on other consultants' sustainability satements, such as:-
sustainability holistically
impactful positions on sustainability
Net Zero by 2030
gender-responsive design
certificate of origin for electricity produced
BREEAM
Claims to allow consumers to compare new homes in terms of their likely running costs and environmental footprint.

This is simply a form filling process which we can do to provide a high classification. Many of the items are regulatory items covered in such sources as the Building regulations. Others are covered in normal town planning.

Items covered includes:-
Public Transport frequency
Public transport nodes
Car clubs
Cycle storage
EV charging points
Ecology of surroundings
Flora and Fauna
Recreational space
Flood risk
Rainwater runoff
Security locks etc
Noise insulation
Only cooking appliances with zero emissions from the fuel are specified (for example electric appliances using power from coal power stations).
Formaldehyde from all sources
Natural light
High standard of air quality
Low or zero carbon (LZC) technologies to offset CO2 from energy consumption.
District heating
Legally harvested and traded timber (who uses illegal timber?)
Responsible sourcing of construction products (who is irresponsible?)
Life cycle cost report
Durability
Accessible to all
All homes are provided with composting facilities
Water efficiency
Enable staff to make protected disclosures.
Systems are performing as designed
Inspections
Respond to medical emergencies (who doesn't ? )

Timber cladding example by others = limited life
We specialise in upgrading and adapting existing structures.

Using existing structures, can save huge waste and the pollution of new building. Reuse and renewal of historical buildings is strongly supported.

With the world's current efforts, "net zero" will not be achieved. We are researching and advocating for policies that will move us towards minimum pollution of all kinds, including CO2.
We are able to provide realistic sensible assessments of your projects' carbon footprint, and provide inovative solutions to reduce pollution.
